"Goods" - All Day - Mates of State
DAY 01: FAVORITE SONG
So I already posted my very favorite song which is Star Girl by McFly but I figured if I was going to do this 30 day song challenge shit that I’d have to eliminate the McFly overdose. So I’m gonna try, I guess.
Nah, it’s not hard.
This is my favorite song in a very, very, very close second, Goods by Mates of State. I don’t know, I used to hate the way it changed towards the end but now I love it.
Matt Morrish actually gave it to me on a CD in….eighth? ninth grade? (weird) and I had never really listened to it until I was sleeping with my iPod on and it came up and I just had this awesome dream about summer and indie music and dinner parties and sunsets and friends and now it just means a lot to me. For more reasons than that. I don’t love every song that sounds like an episode of The O.C.
No, I really love it.
Sooooo here ya go.
"Trestling" - Sunshine Cleaning (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) - Michael Penn
I figured my mother was waiting for something new soooo….
DAY 01: BEST MOVIE I SAW DURING THE LAST YEAR
Sunshine Cleaning. Such an awesome movie. I mean, what else did I see? Sorority Row? The Fourth Kind? Nah, I loved Sunshine Cleaning. Partially because I want to be Emily Blunt’s character when I grow up but also because Amy Adams was amazing and that little kid was so cute and it was darkly funny and sparse and barren and depressing and the music was amazing. Rather than just posting some clip here from YouTube, I want you to listen to this. Sean Penn’s brother, Michael, composed the score and it is completely free of all the douchebaggery the Penn family is known for. (How do you like that term, Mother?)
DAY 02: LEAST FAVORITE SONG
Sexy Chick (feat. Akon) - David Guetta
Ohhhhhhhhhhh man.
I hate every single thing about this fucking song.
Plus, Cantaloop plays AmpRadio all the time and this song just reminds me of day-old fruit, cookies and cream yogurt, and stainless steel cleaner.
If I had no ears or maybe if I had no taste, this would be the perfect song for me. Lucky for me I have both.
Well…I have ears.
"Babydoll Gone Wrong" - Sound Soldier - Skye Sweetnam
DAY 03: FIVE SONGS I WOULD HAVE WITH ME ON A DESERT ISLAND
Now, I don’t know how I would listen to them but let’s not get caught up in details. You’ve heard “Star Girl” and “Goods” (probably not. I don’t listen or watch half of the stuff on my news feed). But let’s assume you have. Well, they would be with me. As for the other three, here they are:
Fascination - Alphabeat
and
Portions for Foxes - Rilo Kiley
SOOOOO GOOD.
I don’t feel compelled to tell you how good “Portions for Foxes” is because you should already know.
As for “Fascination”, it sounds like a pool party. It is the musical manifestation of a pool party. Or it sounds like a band that would play at a pool party. A pool party at night. And when the bass drum pounds after the bridge, right before diving into the last chorus, that’s when someone should jump into the pool with all their clothes on.
I just…
Please listen to it. It’s everything that fun is.
Ah yes. If my calculations are correct, I have only named four. Well, I saved the weirdest best for last.
Babydoll Gone Wrong - Skye Sweetnam
Ok ok ok ok yeah so…
There’s not really any explanation.
It just sounds so heavy. Yeah, it may be ridiculous, it may be lame, it may be just really, really dumb but look, it made the top five.
If there was ever anything you could do for me, it would be to listen to this.
Please.
Just so you can understand me a little better.
Please.
Just listen.
